13 Banned Foods Still Allowed in the US (Part 2)
We provided an article last week on 13 food ingredients that are banned in other countries but are still used by the U.S. We came across another article, "American Foods Chockfull of Ingredients Banned in Other Countries," from Dr. Mercola that provides a table of the top offenders to avoid, what they are found in and what the health hazards are. It's definitely worth a read. Did you know that our food industry already makes safer, better products for other countries who have banned these ingredients...what's with the double-standard?? And recently Russia no longer allows US meat imports due to the discovery the meat contains ractopamine - a beta agonist drug that increases protein synthesis, making the animal more muscular and reducing the fat content of the meat. This drug is banned in 160 countries, including China and Russia but the US continues to use it. Just another example to be mindful of what's in the food in your grocery cart. Read the labels!
